covid 19 day 27
we had planned, at least i had planned and told the others, that i would like to quarantine for 2 weeks. no shopping, no public places, except walks, just to get ourselves a new baseline of non-infection (or not!). but the seniors’ residence (sr) where my mother-in-law lives called to ask for supplies. so i will have to venture out tomorrow for those, and then deliver them. so there goes our 2 weeks. *sigh* we’ll try again.
the sr is in lockdown since march 14, so i will just leave the supplies at the door. i usually went to see cam, my mum-in-law, five days a week, because she just moved to this new residence in january and is so poorly. my usual habit turned out to be very fortunate because when they started screening visitors and only allowing in caregivers, i counted as a caregiver and was put on the list. k’s brothers have visited her once only and k not at all. but on wednesday last, the 1st of april, the sr had a case of covid 19, so that had to be my last day. i was heartbroken to leave mum, and also felt like i was deserting the ship, as i have become fond of many of the caregivers and other “team members” who work there.
“and she just doesn’t know
should she stay?
should she go?”    .....                            [sandra  boynton’s but not the hippopotamus.]€
i had to go. i have the household to think of. i am not at all sure i would survive this captain covid.

meanwhile, my daughter, tamar, is isolated downstairs because she is sick with something. we don’t know what, because it doesn’t match many of the covid 19 criteria, and it’s mild. fortunately her livingspace/bedroom is downstairs, she has been working from home downstairs and she has a bathroom to herself. this started april 2.
so both these developments are on the calendar now, and there are more ”counting days” to come.

most people have similar stories. our daily lives now are experienced through this lens of pandemic, like a magnifying glass it brings the restricted existence of lockdown close-up and larger than life. the simplest errand becomes a james bond undercover op. i watched an episode of a tv show today and i was shocked when the characters casually went to a bar and hugged and kissed acquaintances and had drinks brought to their table! has it been that long since this “normal” behavior was normal?

  1. Sandra Boynton!
Love your reflection at the end: has it, indeed?
